My new iPad has been ordered

Looks like I’ll be getting my hands on an iPad on April 3rd when the first batch of ‘pre-orders’ get delivered.  The order is in for a 64GB Wi-Fi only model; the 3G option is too costly and I really don’t see myself using this device anywhere that Wi-Fi isn’t available. If I do need some form of access via 3G, I can always use a Verizon MiFi 2200 unit which would also be usable by all my other devices. As much as I wanted to be part of the whole ‘in-store’ experience, chatting with my good friend Matt made us realize that we stood a better chance to actually get our iPads on April 3rd if we had them delivered instead of picking them up at our local Apple store. We also took the opportunity to grab some accessories; in addition to the actual iPad, we’re both getting an iPad Case, iPad Dock, iPad VGA Adapter, and an extra iPad Power Adapter.

I’ve been using my small Dell Mini 10 netbook pretty often over the past couple months, and I can definitely see how the iPad will be a more ‘portable’ solution for much of the tasks I used the netbook for. Lots of folks have been calling the new iPad a ‘big iPod Touch’, and I’m really fine with that. I use my iPhone at home pretty often for quick access to information, and the iPad will make the experience a whole lot more satisfying, not to mention quicker and easier. As for the whole issue with buying the first version of any Apple product, I already have a plan for that. When the next version is released with extra features, bells & whistles, etc, I’ll just hand this one down to my wife and get a new one. Of course, that’s contingent on just what those new ‘Version 2.0′ will actually be and if they’re worth the upgrade. I’m willing to wait for ‘Version 3′ if I have to; that’s what I did with my iPhone.
